Butterfly House Residency

The Butterfly House Residency is a new program commencing in 2025.

This residency is to support First Nations artists by providing time, space, and an artist fee for the artist to undertake development on a project or area of practice.

This residency is offered in partnership with RMIT and takes place at McCraith House. The McCraith House, also known as the Butterfly House or Larrakeyah, is located on the traditional land of the Bunurong People in Dromana, on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria.

This residency is generously supported by Chamber Made donors.

We are thrilled that Jaadwa composer, producer and sound artist James Howard will be our first Butterfly House Resident in 2025.

‘My residency at Butterfly House will provide an ideal opportunity to discover fresh approaches to composition and production. I see this as a time to play. A time to break away from familiar and habitual processes and rediscover the wonders of creative sound making. Recently I have felt the compulsion to find interesting and exciting ways to compose outside of my established tool kit. Having the space and time to make in an open-ended manner is the greatest gift that this opportunity could provide me, and I’m looking forward to getting stuck in.’ JAMES HOWARD 2025
