Margaret Meran Trail
Margaret Meran Trail has worked for many years composing, writing and teaching performance. She collaborated with Chris Lewis on Star Danger Star (1993), Four Nights, Dark Room (2003), and Next Night (2004) which won the 2004 Melbourne Fringe Festival Sound Design Award, and has been artist in residence at ABCFM’s audio arts program ‘The Listening Room’ (1995) and Perth Institute of Contemporary Art (1998). From 1999 to 2014 she was a lecturer in performance studies at Victoria University, Melbourne where she taught performance composition, art history and theory, and supervised many wonderful MA and PhD projects. In 2009 she completed her own PhD ‘there’s the siren!’ aurality and representation of the sounds of (Australian) football’, which won the Vice Chancellor’s Peak Award for Research Excellence 2009, and a University Medal in 2010. Following the disestablishment of Performance Studies at VU in 2015, Margaret has embarked on a new adventure in performance, writing and flowers.
