Lena Douglas
Lena’s musical experience covers much ground; performing as a session musician, composing, improvising and teaching. She studied at the Victorian College of the Arts, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Performance. Her compositions investigate rhythm, texture, and patterns; elements which can be heard in the musical output of various collaborative projects including contemporary jazz ensemble Lazercatz 2000, electro-pop outfit Tetrahedra and art-rock seven-piece Tulalah.
She is a passionate educator and values learning and sharing; she is the co-founder and artistic director of YoWo Music, a contemporary music program for young women and GNC teens in high school which aims to contribute towards gender equality in the music scene. Lena is currently completing her Honours in Music with mentor composer Kate Neal. She is investigating rhythmic, phasing and mathematical processes of minimalist composers to inform the development and creation of a new album.
Lena collaborated on the 2020 Little Operations with Siobhan McKenna.
