Jessica Aszodi
Berlin-based, Australian vocalist Jessica Aszodi’s genre-bounding & label-defying performances have been described as “thrilling..” (LA Times) & “intense…” (NY Times). Her diverse practice encompasses curation, devising, writing and performances of classical concert repertoire, experimental music, opera and music theatre. Jessica’s area of specialty is creating new work and many composers, including Liza Lim, Jessie Marino, Dai Fujikura, Anthony Pateras, Augusta Read Thomas, Carolyn Chen and Cathy Milliken have created works for her voice. Jessica has been a soloist with the Chicago, San Diego, Tirol, Melbourne, Sydney & Adelaide Symphony Orchestras, Wiener Volksoper, Ensemble Musikfabrik, Victorian Opera, Nederlands Reisopera, Sydney Chamber Opera, and in most of the major Australian Arts Festivals. She has sung at festivals around the world including Klangspuren, Aldeburgh, Tectonics, & Tanglewood. Aszodi has twice been nominated for Greenroom Awards as ‘best operatic performer’, and was awarded ‘Performance of the Year’ at the 2019 Australian Art-Music Awards. She also maintains a research practice, studying embodied technique and its relationship to creative practice. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from Griffith University/Queensland Conservatorium, & has written scholarly articles in several books & journals.
