In 2011, Victorian Opera and Chamber Made Opera put a call out for new Australian opera proposals for the New Operatic Ventures Australia (NOVA) project,  following the success of the NOVA initiative in 2009/10.

A panel of recognised industry leaders including Robyn Archer, Centenary of Canberra festival Director, Deborah Conway, Artistic Director Queensland Music Festival and Kate Cherry, Artistic Director, Black Swan Theatre Company, alongside Richard Gill, Music Director of Victorian Opera, David Young Artistic Director of Chamber Made Opera and Brett Kelly, Resident Conductor of Chamber Made Opera shortlisted scores for a week long development workshop following a national call for submissions.

The workshop culminated in a presentation of the best new composers and librettists work in September 2012.
