Recital

The life of a performer and life as performance

Recital remains one of Chamber Made Opera’s most toured works, celebrated from Caracas to Covent Garden. Recital offers satirical profundity from a rich and humorous examination of operatic myths, here staged with Beckettian simplicity.

Involving ten of the world’s best known and best loved arias and David Chesworth’s witty and original score, Recital is a highly original hybrid of opera and theatre. As much satire as celebration of ‘high art’, the distinction between the life of a performer, and life as performance, blurs with telling consequences.

Text by Douglas Horton in collaboration with Helen Noonan

Original music by David Chesworth. Arias by Puccini, Pergolesi, Mozart et al.

Instrumentation – sop., pf., sampler.
