Samara Hersch is a Melbourne based theatre maker, director and teaching artist. She graduated with a Masters in Theatre Practice from Victorian College of the Arts and in 2010 was a recipient of the British Council Realise Your Dream Award and in 2015 was a recipient of the Keith and Elisabeth Murdoch Travel Fellowship.
In 2015, Samara was a Director in Residence at the Malthouse Theatre and a member of the Melbourne Theatre Company’s Women’s Director’s Program.
In 2014, she was the recipient of the Australia Council for the Arts Early Career Residency program and was an artist in residence at the City of Melbourne Arts and Participation program. Samara has been a guest lecturer in Performance Studies at Deakin University as well as having taught at Monash University, St Martins Youth Arts Centre and Back to Back’s Theatre of Speed.
Most recently, Samara directed ‘Sex and Death’ at Arts House for The Festival of Live Art (2016). ‘Sex and Death’ was nominated for 2 Green Room Award for Best Contemporary and Experimental Performance. Other recent credits include: ‘A Dybbuk Event’, Malthouse Theatre ( 2016) , ‘ META’, Malthouse Theatre ( 2014) and ‘ Hello There We’ve Been Waiting For You’, ACMI, Next Wave Festival (2014).
